To Mend or Repair Review

To Mend or Repair

 This was an episode I really looked forward to, and amongst message boards such as Campbell County, it had fans speculating and frantic to find out what the news could be that Eugene and Katrina got.
This episode is handled fantastically. The tone is really sad,
but it still comes off as a strong episode. It doesn't take too long before we find out the news; Katrina and Eugene can't have children. This is something that shocked me, and I know I wasn't the only one. Many have asked the AIO people when Katrina and Eugene might have a baby. And now it seems this has been answered. Katrina handles her grief in a little different way than Eugene. While Eugene wants to do activities galore, Katrina really doesn't want to do much. The scene at the library, when Eugene is looking for activities is classic. Mrs. Kramer is too funny. Her dry sense of humor is almost Bernard-like in nature.

This episode has a second story line involving Priscilla and Barrett. Barrett gets a job announcing the school announcements, and has Priscilla lead the pledge. She forgets parts of it and stumbles through before running out. After this Barrett tries to help Priscilla by getting Jay back rather than just being there for Priscilla.
Priscilla's storyline really balances it out. It has a heavy feeling, but there is a little humor that lightens the mood a little bit.

Odyssey Connection: There's been countless times where I want to help someone by doing something. But I've learned that sometimes it's more effective to just listen to the person, and just being there for them. That is what this episode is all about. Eugene helped Katrina out so much more, by just sitting with her, and being there,and talking about how he feels too. And all Priscilla really wanted was for Barrett to just sit and talk with her. Like Whit said, it's important to remember to be more Mary-like than Martha-like.

Theme: Being a Friend 4/5
Humor: 4/5 - The humor balance of this episode is good. It's really heavy, but there's a good balance to lighten it up a little bit.
  Quotes: 3.5/5 --
Standout Quote(s):

 Katrina Meltsner: I was just praying. That you would be here, sitting with me, crying with me, holding my hand. And here you are. The answer to my prayer.
Mrs. Kramer: A hundred things I hate; by Mrs. Kramer. Mosquitoes. Poems that don't rhyme. Flimsy supermarket lettuce. My far-sighted dentist. My near-sighted hair dresser. Cats. Valentines gifts with no candy. Children laughing.
Priscilla Peterson: There are a hundred of these?
Mrs. Kramer: Vacuuming. Channel five weather man--you know, the one with the big teeth.
Connie Kendall: Yeah, I think it's time to go.
Mrs. Kramer: People who leave in the middle of poetry readings. Love songs. Democracy.
