Unbecoming Jay Review
Odyssey has had it's share of bullies over the years.Rodney Rathbone, Rusty Gordon, and the other bones of Wrath, and now in the post 50 we're presented with two bully-like characters Jay and Vance. Jay as the title implies is in this episode. Jay is more than just a bully though, he's often used to add a laugh to the episode and this episode is no exception. Jay is a prime example of how sometimes, ones mouth can work faster than ones brain and not always make sense. Barrett showing Cindy around adds class to Barrett's character. And Jay ditching Cindy was totally like Jay. This episode strengthens the little crush thing that Barrett and Priscilla have going. We get the impression that...
it's common knowledge that Barrett and Priscilla have a thing going, because Jay tries to sabotage it. I really like that in some of the newer episodes, old places like Hal's Diner, (Used in this episode) and Finneman's market are mentioned. It really makes the town feel like the same Odyssey, even though there are so many new businesses around too.

ReplyDeleteI actually liked this episode quite a bit. I definitely wouldn't have rated it the same (3/5) as Emily the Genius, which I didn't like much at all. I thought this episode had some great humor and great character development, as you mentioned, but it also had a very relatable moral. Whether it's a good thing or not, many kids in the 12-15 age range go through experiences like that in this episode. So I thought the issue was handled really well, and the writers really made you feel involved and sympathetic toward the characters.
Great review, though, even if it was a little on the short side. ;)
Thanks for commenting! Emily the Genius and Unbecoming jay felt like average episodes to me. Nothing really spectacular, yet nothing really horrible. Yeah, the last three have been on the short side of things... I was sort of trying to catch up, and kind of summed up the majority of my thoughts. I think the majority of the 55 reviews will be longer though.
